{"id":317,"date":"2023-08-29T07:41:52","date_gmt":"2023-08-29T07:41:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/perfectoholic.pro\/physio\/?p=317"},"modified":"2023-08-29T07:41:52","modified_gmt":"2023-08-29T07:41:52","slug":"hip-bursitis-what-is-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/perfectoholic.pro\/physio\/hip-bursitis-what-is-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Hip Bursitis \u2013 What Is It?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Bursitis is a condition that occurs when a bursa becomes inflamed.<\/h3>\n<p><strong>A bursa is a small sac,\u00a0<\/strong>usually filled with fluid, that acts as a cushion\/shock absorber between bones and soft tissues like muscle and ligaments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inflammation<\/strong>\u00a0of the bursa over your bony part of your hip bone is called\u00a0<strong>trochanteric bursitis<\/strong>, this is considered one of the most common types of bursitis. A lesser common site of bursal inflammation is of one located towards the inside of the hip and often referred to as<strong>\u00a0iliopsoas bursitis.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The bursa can become inflamed due to repetitive irritation which may be caused by a sudden increase in training, but also due to incorrect biomechanics around the hip joint leading to abnormal irritation of the bursa.<\/p>\n<h3>Symptoms:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Hip pain<\/li>\n<li>Pain extending through the thigh area<\/li>\n<li>Early-stage,\u00a0 more sharp and intense pain<\/li>\n<li>Later stage,\u00a0 ache feeling &amp; more spread over the hip<\/li>\n<li>Night pain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Functional Limitations:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Lying on the affected side<\/li>\n<li>Standing up from sitting<\/li>\n<li>Prolonged walking, stair climbing, or squatting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What Do The Doctors Say?<\/h3>\n<p>To provide a diagnosis, doctors will perform a comprehensive assessment around the hip. Often, they will refer for additional tests such as medical imaging to confirm and\/or rule out other conditions.<\/p>\n<h3>Management and Rehabilitation<\/h3>\n<p>Despite having local pain around the hip, other areas outside the hip need to be considered to determine any contributing factors that may lead to further injury.<\/p>\n<p>Treatment needs to address the cause by prescribed a specific stretching program for hip flexors and other surrounding muscles to support the hip joint.
